Been using for over 2 years now
By using this baiting system for the last couple of years, and following the directions (checking every 90 days, using needle nose pliers to pull-out and inspect for termites, wearing gloves so as not to leave odor, etc), I have many times (6-10 times) found active termites in my baits and promptly pulled out the TIC and replaced it with the termite poison cartridge. When I've checked 90 days later, the termites are gone and often times most of the poison is gone, too. If any cartridges (active or inactive) are in good shape, I seal and reuse them at a later time. I doubt that's according to instructions, but that's what I do and it has worked well for me so far.

Hard to Identify Termite Activity
I have faithfully checked my bait stations monthly, but all I see is that some of the layers appear to melt due to water. If I have termite activity I am not sure I could tell if its mud or what. I didn't know when I bought the stations that I had to replace the wood annually and I think I am supposed to replace these inspection cartridges too. I know the expense is less than hiring an expert, but I don't have the experience to know exactly what I am looking for. The wood was rotten and needed changed, but I didn't see any termites when I dug it out. I don't know how you get the wood parts out without scraping the soil from the inside, which they advise to keep the soil touching the wood. I feel like a fisherman that can't catch anything and I know termites are around. I live in Louisiana and my neighbors had serious termite damage.

DIY Response: Yes it is important to change the wood and inspection cartridge periodically. When the inspection cartridge is still in good shape it is obvious when you've caught termites. You'll see what looks like white ants crawling all around the wood and inside the cartridge. Call us: 1-800-476-3368 if you have further questions.
