Southern Chinch Bug Control

The number one turf issue in Florida and Texas is the Southern chinch bug. In recent years, this insect has developed resistance to many pyrethroid insecticides, which are commonly used. Based on studies, Arena Insecticide, part of a neonicotinoid class of chemicals, has been recognized as an effective product for this pyrethroid-resistant Southern chinch bug. Arena is formulated to work well against chinch bugs due to its water solubility, organic matter binding potential, and optimum aerobic soil half-life. The combination of a low water solubility and moderate affinity to organic matter means that Arena stays at the turf/soil surface, but is still available for uptake into the turf. These characteristics are advantageous during times of high rainfall. It also has longer term control than other neonicotinoids due to a longer aerobic soil half-life.

The systemic power of Arena causes chinch bugs to cease feeding in 24 hours.

RESISTANCE MANAGEMENT

Arena  0.25 G Insecticide 1 contains a Group 4A insecticide. Insect biotypes with acquired resistance to Group 4A insecticides may eventually dominate the insect population if Group 4A insecticides are used repeatedly in the same field or in successive years as the primary method of control for targeted species.

This may result in partial or total loss of control of those species by Arena 0.25 G Insecticide 1 or other Group 4A. To delay insecticide resistance consider:

• Avoiding the consecutive use of Arena 0.25 G Insecticide 1 or other Group 4A insecticides that have a similar target site of action on the same insect species.

 • Using tank mixtures or premixes with insecticides from a different target site of action Group as long as the involved products are all registered for the same use and have different sites of action.

 • Basing insecticide use on a comprehensive Inte - grated Pest Management (IPM) program. • Monitoring treated insect populations for loss of field efficacy.

• Contacting your local extension specialist, certified crop advisors and/or manufacturer for insecticide resistance management or IPM recommendations for the specific site and resistant pest problem

Cinchbug Stopper
For the first time in many years my St Augustine in W. Central Florida was aggressively attacked by Cinchbugs. The Big Box insecticide just made the hungrier. Even Bifen I/T did not slow them down (I have read they have become resistant to that now). Put this out and stopped them cold. Yes - it is expensive but a little goes a long way. Now - if it would only control crabgrass!!!

Great product, worked as advertised
I was having a serious chinch bug problem in my St. Augustine lawn. Mine had apparently developed a resistance to Bifenthrin. One application with Arena 0.25 did the trick. Within a week the ugly yellow circles started withdrawing and now, a month later, the lawn is back to a nice uniform green.

My order was processed promptly the product arrived a few days later in perfect condition. The granules were very uniform with no moisture issues. It spread very uniformly. I will use the product again next spring.

Arena 0.25
Item was shipped and received ahead of scheduled delivery date. Was packed well didn't have to worry about the bags being torn open during transit. Have used this to control insects so the moles stay out of the yard. No problems with chinch bugs either. Will buy again considering no merchant in the area carries this product.

Arena granules
Recommended by our County Extension office for chinch bugs in Florida. The product definitely helps to control them. These insects have gained immunity to most other insecticides. Used on St Augustine grass.

Wish I knew about it sooner.
A professional told me about the product. Seems to have taken care of the chinch bugs that ate up my St. Augustine. Will have to try it again next bug season.
