Celsius WG Herbicide - Warm SeasonTurf Types

Celsius WG Herbicide got it's name from "Celsius (°C) ", temperature degree. Unlike other herbicides, Celsius WG can be applied when the weather is unbearably hot, even when temperatures exceed 90 degrees (reducing risk of phytotoxicity).

As a post-emergent herbicide, it works very well on southern grasses such as St. Augustine, without fear of damaging turf.

Celsius WG is a selective herbicide providing a broad spectrum of weed control with it's three active ingredients.

How does Celsius WG work?

Weeds quit growing within a few hours, by a combination of active ingredients that not only stop the weed growth by inhibiting weed growth, but combines with an ingredient that reduces the probability of resistance. Look for a yellowing or reddening/purpling to necrosis that will control the weeds within 1-4 weeks. The speed of weed control will vary with temperature and will be faster at warmer temperatures, or the soil is adequately moist for weed growth.

Weed control may be reduced if application occurs during heavy dew, fog, and mist/rain or when weeds are under stress due to drought.

Top Celsius WG Herbicide Benefits

    • Safe for use year round on many warm-season turf types.
    • Celsius controls more than 150 weeds including many difficult-to-control broadleaf and grassy weeds.
    • The soil activity of Celsius provides a barrier of control for up to 60 days after the application.

EPA Reg. No. 432-1507

Celsius WG Herbicide Cautions:

Do not use Celsius WG on cool season grasses including fescue, bluegrass, ryegrass or bentgrass.

Application Tips:

To help penetrate the natural waxy tissue barrier of plants, use a surfactant such as Alligare Surface Surfactant

Damage to sensitive non-targeted plants can occur as a result of spray drift. Use of a marking dye to see where you have applied Celsius WG Herbicide will help avoid injury to non-target plants.

Mixture|Application AFor spot applications, add the specified product rate of 0.057-0.113 oz to 1 gallon water. One gallon of spray solution will treat up to 1,000 sq ft.
Refer to the label.
Application

Dilution rates vary.

  • Low rate is 0.057 oz. or 1.6 grams per gallon water
  • Middle rate is 0.085 oz. or 2.4 grams per gallon water
  • High rate is 0.113 oz. or 3.2 grams per gallon water
  • For top results to control mature weeds, apply when the daily average temperature is above 60° F.
  • Do not mow immediately after treating grasses with Celsius. Apply Celsius when dew, fog, mist, and rain are not present.

SPOT TREATMENT

Use a spot treatment application of Celsius WG Herbicide for controlling specific areas of sensitive weeds. For spot treatments, mix 0.057-0.113 oz (1.6-3.2 g) of Celsius WG Herbicide per gallon and apply until weeds are wet. One gallon of spray solution will treat up to 1000 sq ft. For difficult-to-control weeds, such as Virginia buttonweed or dollarweed, make a second application when re-growth is observed. Do not exceed 0.17 oz (4.8 g) of product per 1000 sq ft in a calendar year.

More Instructions

Do not use Celsius WG on cool season grasses including fescue, bluegrass, ryegrass or bentgrass.

MODE OF ACTION

Two of the three active ingredients in Celsius WG Herbicide (thiencarbazone-methyl and iodosulfuron-methyl-sodium) inhibit acetolactate synthase (ALS). ALS is responsible for the synthesis of essential amino acids that are essentia for plant growth. Inhibition of these amino acids stops weed growth. Some weed species, however, have naturally occurring biotypes that are resistant to ALS-inhibiting herbicides.

Resistant weed populations may occur when ALS herbicides are used year after year. To add to the weeds controlled and provide resistance management, Celsius WG Herbicide also contains dicamba, a benzoic acid herbicide that acts on the same biochemical site as the natural plant auxin, indole acetic acid (IAA). Having several herbicides with different modes of action (MOA) reduces the probability that resistant biotypes to Celsius WG Herbicide will develop.

Celsius WG
After several years of losing the battle with chamberbitter, I was very happy to get something that would kill it without harming my bermudagrass. I applied the Celsius 3 weeks ago and the weeds are dead and dying.

Good results, expensive but makes about 88 gals.
Recommended by a friend who was a lawn guy. After one application its already showing results. Dollar weed is fading. Takes very little per gal of mix, so my neighbor and I went in on halves. Atrazine just wasn't cutting it anymore.

Really Works
Celsius WG Herbicide was recommended to me by my sister. I thought she was wrong, because I didn't see results for a couple of weeks....but then the weeds, and particulary the dollarweed that is so hard to kill, started diminishing. You don' t have to use much, so read the label completely. I figure this little bottle will last me up to 10 years for my lawn.
