How to Get Rid of Ants
Recommended Treatment Methods
Common Household Ants
Ant baits and non-repellent insecticide sprays are two popular methods for household ant control. Baiting and insecticide spray can be combined for the most effective treatment if a non-repellent spray is used.
All Ant Baits: All ants require two types of food cycles to thrive. The cycles are referred to as the sweet cycle and the grease/protein cycle. There's no easy way to tell which cycle an ant requires at any given moment. Using both protein and sweet baits is the most effective method to bait ants.
Non-Repellent Insecticide Sprays: Sprays such as Taurus SC (Fipronil 9.1%) are preferred for ant control. The ants cannot detect its presence and crawl through the treated area. The insecticide kills the ant slowly so it has plenty of time to track the insecticide back to the nest.
Insect first to determine sites of nests.Use Taurus SC around the perimeter if they are foraging inside. Use Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait and Advance 375A baits on their ant trails (inspect their trails at sunset or night when they are returning to their nests.) Use an insecticide dust like D-Fense Dust or an aerosol like Alpine PT or Alpine Ant and Termite Foam to treat void directly.

Mega-Colony Ants (Crazy and Argentine Ants)
Mega-Colony Ants like Argentine Ants and Crazy Ants are persistent ants. The Mega Colony Kit contains a mixture of products for your best solution.
- Preventive Fire Ant Control: Preventive treatment with Bifen LP granules is the easiest method to control fire ant populations.
- Existing Fire Ant Infestation: If fire ants have already infested an area, then a fire ant bait is required to get rid of the infestation.
Insecticide Dusts for Ant Control
When it comes to controlling ants in the home, insecticide dusts are the forgotten hero. We typically focus on quick kill insecticides and baits that can be taken back to the colony, but dusts are a great long term strategy. Dust formulations have been around for years. They are safe, extremely long lasting, and easy to use. One draw back to dusts is that they take longer to kill off the colony and they aren't good to use out in the open. Dust is more appropriate for places like wall voids, and other protected hiding places. In properly protected places, insecticide dust can make an area uninhabitable by insects for years. Use an insecticide duster during the dust application to make the job much easier.

Taurus SC Insecticide and Termiticide with 9.1 % Fipronil has the same active ingredient and label as the well known Termidor SC. Taurus SC is a non-repellent insecticide labeled for termite treatments and home perimeter treatments. Since Taurus is a non-repellent, the insects do not know it is there, so they don't make attempts to avoid it. They will cross over it, and consume or spread Taurus SC throughout the entire colony. It is a water-based suspension concentrate for pre and post-construction termite applications, and to control perimeter pests.
Taurus SC will exterminate termite colonies in a little as 3 months on average. As an ant control product it is proven to be a very effective ant killer working in just a couple of weeks.Learn More

It will kill many types of ants (see label), bed bugs, grain beetles, boxelder bugs, house crickets, roaches, spiders, scorpions and more. As these pest come in contact with it, they share it with other insects, spreading it to those that have not come in contact with it.Learn More

Spectre PS aerosol can be compared to Phantom Aerosol with the same formulation of 0.5% Chlorfenapyr. Both Spectre and Phantom products are classified as non-repellents. As a non-repellent insecticide, the insects cannot detect its presence, allowing the insects to cross over its chemical placements, instead of avoiding the area. Spectre PS does not stain and may be combined with any roach baiting program and is an excellent product for fabric pests.Learn More
The Mega-Colony Ant Kit works very well against the mega-colony ants such as Argentine and Crazy Ants. Megacolony ants have several queens and are numerous. They are invasive and difficult to control with just a single product. We have combined a kit that contains both a sweet based ant bait and protein based ant bait that works well on mega-colony ants. These baits may be applied both inside and outside. Also included in the kit is a non-repellent insecticide, called Dominion 2L. As a non-repellent, the ants can not detect it in an attempt to avoid. it. The ants will pick it up on their feet and take it back to the colony, distributing it throughout the colony as they groom themselves.Learn More

Two types of baits to use for carpenter ants. The Advance 375 A Select Bait may be used for other ants as well and will feed their protein requirements. The Maxforce Fleet Ant Gel is an excellent bait to feed their sugar requirements and is fast acting. The ants will either take one or the other, depending on the needs of that certain ant colony.
