White Flies: How to kill and get rid of White Flies
White flies may not be harmful to humans, but they can damage and kill your favorite ornamental trees and bushes. White flies harm your plants by sucking the sap, juice, and moisture from the leaves.
- Topical Treatment (quick kill of white flies): Coat the top and bottom of the plant's leaves with Bifen IT or Dominion 2L. Add a small amount of dish detergent or liquid soap to the mixture before applying to your plants. The detergent helps lower the surface tension of the waxy covering on plant leaves. Without detergent, the mixture will bead up on leaves.
- Systemic Treatment (kill white flies longer term): Apply Dominion 2L directly to the roots from a bucket. Systemic treatment works by having the insecticide absorbed into the plant system.
