Yellow Jackets are usually found nesting in the ground, but they can also inhabit railroad ties, wall voids and above ground locations.

Yellow Jackets feed on insects during the spring months. Spraying surrounding foliage with an appropriate insecticide helps reduce the population. Yellow Jackets populations are largest during the fall months and can become a serious nuisance pest because they are aggressive toward anything they see as a threat.

To locate a yellow jacket nest, look during the hottest parts of the day, because they are most active at that time. You will see the workers entering and exiting a small hole in the ground if they've made the nest underground. Mark the entry points. Treat at night when the yellow jackets are the least active and most are in the nest.

Spraying Yellow Jacket Nests:

  1. Spray opening at night with pyrethrin aerosol-CB 80, Stryker 54, or PT 656
  2. Wait until aerosol is dry (10-15 minutes)
  3. Dust opening with Tempo Dust, or D Fense Dust
