The Pantry Pest Trap (Safer Brand) 05140

The Pantry Pest Trap (Safer Brand) uses a powerful attractant that has a strong effect on certain moths. It has been used in commercial pest control applications to trap a variety of pantry moths. These include many different species of pantry moths; Indian Meal Moths, Seed moths, Raisin moths, Almond moths and Tobacco moths. All these pantry moths are small and narrow (3/8" to 1/2" ). They vary in color from a coppery brown to a mottled gray. These pantry pests are found world wide around dried goods and foods, including, wheat, cornmeal, dried fruits, seeds, crackers, biscuits, nuts, powdered milk, dried pet food, bird seed, chocolate, red peppers, tobacco, and cocoa beans.

Pro Tips
When it comes to pheromone traps, more is not better. More than 2 or 3 traps in an average size room can get so much scent in the air that the moths are confused and have trouble locating the traps.

Overall pantry moth traps have been a godsend. Safer is a decent product but not the best in my assessment (used in central North Carolina).
In spring 2017 I set up 1 trap each of 4 brands (Safer, Able Catch, CatchMaster, and Propest) in a pantry moth nesting area, then checked every so often and rotated the 4 traps at each check. The results for Safer: Safer performed poorest in Mar-April (Propest was best in spring), Safer did a fair job in Jun-Aug (Catchmaster did best in summer), and in winter Safer caught the most (though there were very few at that point).
It's easy to use, non-toxic, and does catch the moths, so not a waste of money, though other brands seem to do better. But pantry moth traps are terrific overall!

  2. Better than Revenge brand

I compared these with Revenge and Pheronet brands. Pheronet is said to last 2 months and these are said to last 3 months. They did not catch as many moths but they did last longer. If they fill w/ moths quickly or get dusty I have removed the bait and put it in an empty glue trap. The Pheronets have no bait (its imbedded in the glue) so they are easier to load but cannot be reused once they fill. Pheronets worked well too. Revenge did NOT work well in my comparison.

  3. These are some of the best pheromone traps on the market.

These traps are very effective at reducing the number of male grain moths. Never use more than two per household at a time though. I had a customer who put no less than fifty of these traps out and infested her house with every horny male moth in five blocks. I usually check each week and mark the number down with a marker on the front. That way you know when there is no longer a problem.

  4. Wow!

These moth traps work like magic. We had swarms around our birds cage and in the surrounding rooms. Once I opened the traps and brought them into the room the male moths went crazy. They could not wait to fine that "female" in the room. Within a few days, all signs of the moths were gone and the traps were loaded with male moths. It is amazing! Best of all, it is safe to use around pets.
