Talpirid Mole Bait

Why Talpirid Mole Bait Is Top Rated - It Mimics Earthworms

Talpirid Mole Bait is a mole bait designed, developed, and scientifically proven to kill moles. After much research and development, Bell Labs has manufactured Talpirid Mole Bait to closely resemble the earthworm (the mole's preferred food source). Talpird Mole Bait is also the only mole bait on the market that has submitted tests to the EPA with laboratory efficacy tests on moles.

Ready to use Talpirid Mole Bait has a unique size, shape, and feel that mimic a mole's natural food source, the earthworm, and its active ingredient capitalizes on a mole's physiology. In field and laboratory tests, Talpirid Mole Bait has achieved outstanding acceptance and control.

Moles only

This revolutionary mole bait mimics the mole's natural food, the earthworm. Plus it contains special enhancers that attract moles.

It is not designed for gophers or voles

Active Ingredient (s) Bromethalin 0.025%
For Use :

Outdoors and underground.

Make a hole in the top of the runway with a rod lightly larger than the diameter of the bait. Drop one worm into the runway, using the rod to push any exposed bait completely into the runway. Carefully reseal the runway with a small amount of dirt to exclude light.

Repeat bait application every 5 to 10 feet of each active subsurface runway.

Bait Active Runways

Make a hole in the top of the runway with a rod lightly larger than the diameter of the bait. Drop one worm into the runway, using the rod to push any exposed bait completely into the runway. Carefully reseal the runway with a small amount of dirt to exclude light. Repeat bait application every 5 to 10 feet of each active subsurface runway.

Selection of Treatment Areas

Establish Initial Activity:

Use your finger, small wooden dowel, or a narrow rod to puncture a hole in the top of subsurface runways. Be careful not to crush runways. Mark opened runways and revisit them 48 to 72 hours later. Runways that have had holes resealed within 72 hours should be baited.

The presence of moles may be indicated by a network of subsurface runways in the turf or by a series of conical mounds of earth pushed up from deep burrows. Subsurface runways are indicated by raised ridges of vegetation and soil caused by moles foraging for food just below the soil surface. These runways are especially noticeable when the grass above them turns yellow. Conical mounds may be indicative of the location of deeper main underground runways.

Conical Mounds:

Moles construct deeper tunnels that are not visible from the surface. These deep tunnels systems are often marked by a series of conical mounds (piles of dirt) 4 to 12 inches high formed when dirt is pushed to the surface when moles construct these tunnels. To locate deep tunnels, push a probe, such as a broom handle, into the soil between mounds. When the probe enters a tunnel, the resistance on the probe will decrease rapidly. Mark opened tunnels and revisit them 48 to 72 hours later. Runways that have had holes resealed within 72 hours should be baited.

Deep Tunnels

To bait deep tunnels, drop one Talpirid worm through the probe hole, using the probe to push the bait completely into the tunnel. Cover the hole with a piece of sod, a small rock or a piece of newspaper to allow for visual inspection. Repeat bait application every 5 to 10 feet of each active deep tunnel and within 5 feet of each active conical mound. Check for the effects of treatment 5 to 7 days after bait application using the same procedure for determining tunnel location. Return 48 to 72 hours later and retreat all active tunnel systems

Yield 1 Talpirid box (20 worms) is enough for two typical treatments Bait in unopened sealed box will last up to 1 year in controlled environment. Once opened, use within 15 days.

More Instructions

Five (5) to 7 days after bait application, check for mole activity using the same procedure for determining initial activity. Return 48 to 72 hours later and retreat all active runs.

If Talpirid doesn't seem to work, consider:

1. Are you using gloves when applying the bait?
Not using gloves may contaminate the bait with a human scent.

2. Are you applying product before or after a heavy rain?
Rain and humidity can break down the bait faster than normal conditions.

3. Is a chemical insecticide or fertilizer being applied to the lawn?
Chemicals that are applied before or after (within a few days) of applying Talpirid can affect the bait by contamination. Hence, the chemical gets on the bait by seeping through the tunnels.

4. Are you following the three-step process on the package?

5. Are you baiting properly once you find the main active run?
If you bait without ever doing a test to find the active tunnel(s), than the bait may never be encountered and eaten by moles. You can test for an active tunnel by following the steps outlined on the package instructions.

Thanks Talpirid Mole Bait
I've been using this product for over 7 years and am completely satisfied. My yard was clear of moles when I used it. Last year I ran out and didn't use it, what a mistake, the moles moved in. After one application, I no longer see mole activity. Thanks Talpirid Mole Bait.
Review by Joe / (Posted on 5/30/2020)
It works
Our yard had tunnels all over and this bait was recommended to us. We had tried the stuff sold at local big box stores and several “home” baits and deterrences without success. So we gave Talpirid a try. It is expensive but it has worked. Tunnels are gone. I hope we don’t have to treat too often but the cost is worth the outcome.

Did what it was supposed to do!
This product was recommended to me by my turf company owner. He said it was a cost effective way to get rid of the mole(s) in my backyard. I followed the directions and with only 1 application of 10 worms, I am mole free! Could not be happier.

Best mole bait on the market. Must follow directions and treat the whole area for best results.

Great product, easy application, timely results!
Followed the directions to the letter, dropped 12 worms total along 6 to 8 tunnels throughout my yard and an adjoining neighbor’s yard! After a week, NO more tracks in either yard! If u have a problem with moles, THIS is the product to eliminate that problem!

Good Product
I live on acreage & after using Talpirid mole worms I've gone from 50 mounds a day to 5. I've used the big box store brand and the moles will actually push those out of their mounds - haven't seen them do that with Talpirid. I've ordered a 2nd box to attempt to get the rest of them.

Should have used these years ago
I’ve let moles get the best of me for 10 years so I ordered 2 boxes of worms and placed them as directed..no more moles! Ordered 2 more boxes cause just in case I get more.

The product works as described
I heard about this product from a Public Utilities employee who was using it to clear moles from our city parks. I use an old target arrow to poke a clean hole down into an active tunnel, usually near a junction, and then (wearing throw-away gloves), I finagle and poke a Talprid worm down into the hole. I then cover the arrow hole with a stone or some dirt to block the light. I have found dead moles lying on the ground nearby and I have cleared a few acres of moles. I used about 20 worms last year. This year, so far I have used only 2! This stuff works. I wonder if it would kill Armadillos? They also eat worms. Just saying...SE

I am so VERY happy with this product!
I live in the country and for the last three years, my mole population has grown and grown. I had moles in the front and back of my house. I tried these worms and stuck them down in the tunnels just as the directions said two weeks ago and they are gone! Unbelievable! I wouldn't believe it I hadn't seen it for myself. I am so happy to have those mounds of dirt gone and no more popping up. I love this product. So easy to use and so effective!

Moles vs Voles
Started using this product 8 years ago. Tried everything that was possible for 10 years before I found Talpirid. I called the company that makes the product and I learned that many people confuse MOLES vs VOLES. This product will not kill voles, but is excellent at killing moles.
Tips for using the product:
1. Do not cut the bait in half.
2. Wear disposable gloves.
3. Find an active "feed run". I pat down a feed run and see if the mole has come back the next day.
4. Now that you have found an active "feed run" do not pat it down. Dig a hole just big enough to put the bait in. I put a flat rock over the hole.
5. Do not pick up the rock for a least 48 hrs. Then pick it up during the day. ( not early morning or at dusk) if the bait is gone, you got him!
6. Pat down all the runs. (if possible) and check to see every day if there are new runs.
After three years of getting rid of the moles in the spring. I was mole free for two years. Now if I get a mole in my yard in the spring, I can get rid of it in 48 hours before they have their young. I live next to a golf course, and the moles come in on the west side of my property in the spring. I finally convinced the golf manager to use talpirid and have been mole free since then.

Excellent Product
I used a service to attempt to control moles damage for a long time. It was very clostly and minimally effective. I looked carefullly at receipt before calling to cancel the service and this is the product they had used. I found you had it and purchased it. I live with a greenbelt behind my home and with ongoing abating, I can minimize the damge and hold them at bay. If my neighbors would use it also, we could do better. They die in their tunnels after eating bate. Other moles will not use those tunnels. But they just move around. I have found nothing better than this product and it works. Service is quick and packaged ell. Best way to handle the problem for me at at least half the cost of professionals and some months much less than half the mount.

Did not work
Used gloves and baited 10 different deep holes.
Moles pushed dirt and worms out of holes within a day. Have now used orchard strength water activated gas pellets to kill the moles. Licensed exterminator needed.

Seems to have worked
About 2 weeks ago we put the worms into fresh burrows, as directed on package. We have seen no new activity, so we're thinking that the moles are no longer alive. (Hard to verify 100% that the moles are dead without digging for them!)
Product came quickly and was very easy to use.
Review by Excowgirl / (Posted on 10/18/2016)
So far so good!
This is my first experience with this product. Very well packaged and easy to use. I did cut bait in half. I have not seen any new tunnels since initial application. Very pleased!

Excellent and final got rid of them after trying many other products
I tried many other products including the manual traps which are a big pain. Very pleased, and the moles go off and die underground somewhere. Be very careful around dogs though that eat worms.

It was a nightmare dealing with this recurrent problem but now I have something that really works (Atlanta, Ga)

Talprid not a good solution to a mole problem
Following the directions, using gloves and applying almost 20 Talprid "worms", I had no observable effect on the mole(s) in my garden. This was an expensive lesson that others report, also: Talprid is often ineffective.

Talpirid arrived timely like the previous order I placed with DoYourOwnPestControl. As I stated before, I am a female Senior and have given up using traps, as they are too hard to handle for me. I have used these worms (cut in 1/2) for several years now and seem to be able to keep mole activity under control. Have tried to talk the neighbors into using Talpirit, because these critters just cross over in old tunnels, but they'd rather I spent the money :-) .......till I can't afford it any more, worth it for me.

used to use traps and other means, but Talpirit works the BEST and is EASIEST to use, especially for a Senior female!. I cut the worms in half and put a couple in different locations at the first sign of activity. It works!
Licensed in pest control and used for several years with great success. Be judicious when handling. Always wear gloves and be careful putting them on. Open package then put them on and don't touch any area of the glove that will come in contact with bait. Carefully insert in burrow and gently cover insertion point to inhibit any ambient light. Hope it helps. Also, I always used half a worm.

I have tried various products against moles here in Indiana and used Talpirid for years. I have found that you can even increase your coverage by splitting the bait in two! Talpirid Mole Bait is great
I just salted my front and back yard with 20 worms to hopefully stop the onslaught of my neighbor's moles. I am confident that Talpirid will do the job. I've used it for years with success and fine that buying it through Do Your Own Pest Control is the least expensive way to go.

not worth it!
I have been trying to eradicate (VOLS) for years. Have tried ALL of the poisons that are out there. I should have taken pictures of these "worms", the day after I put them in the tunnels----they were all (I used five) on top of the tunnels adjacent to a hole where the VOLS had "pushed them out". A complete waste of money!

Don't waste money on electronic devices or other products
I live with woods behind my home. I have a network of tunnels in my yard. Wildlife is a plus for the area but the moles were destroying my yard and plantings. I hired professionals who cost me dearly but did not control the moles. I looked at the receipt and saw what they were using. I ordered same and supplemented their efforts by using the product. I still have some infestation but I am getting to the point I am not seeing any activity. I discontinued he professional service as I can do the same thing. This product works. I am getting better about selecting the site for the deposit of the product in their tunnels. Save your money and use this product. Far more effective than similar products. It appears this product has more poison in it. It is costly but works.

This is a very effective product BUT in order to truly get rid of a mole problem, you have to get rid of the food source in your yard ... grubs and earthworms. I used a product on the lawn ALONG WITH talpirid and was able to successfully solve the problem, but talpirid alone didn't do it.

Armed to kill the monster moles
The moles in our yard this year were terrible. I had tried another product and the moles just laughed at me and continued their mission of destroying my gardens and yard! I thought the moles would meet their demise during the cold winter. Upon researching, I found this is when the moles dig deeper and propagate. Thinking how many I would have come next sprng, I decided I needed to get serious about ridding my gardens and yard of moles. Along with the article telling the habits of the moles, there was an ad for Talprid. I sent in an order, and when they arrived a friend helped me place a tray of the worms in trails. Some of the worms we divided in half to further our mission. In less than 24 hours, we knew the worms were working...thanks to Talprid Mole Control worms!

I have been using Talpirid for eight years and depend on the quality to kill off those pesky moles. I live in a heavily wooded area. The moles come out of the forest and dig in my yard. Usually the worst attacks come after a rain and the ground is soft in the spring or fall. After I don't find any active runs I use my garden hose to destroy the former tunnels. The product is the fastest acting of all the other products I have tried.

Mole abatement
Last year was the last straw, as my beautifully manicured yard , which attracted many earthworms, became a motocross track for many families of moles and their close neighbors, the voles.

Had tried everything from smoking, flooding, salting, poisoning, chewing gumming, rock salting, tabasco-ing, trapping, them out. Hired a few dogs and cats, with a mere modicum of success.
Still the yard suffered as did the flower gardens.

The rat traps /peanut butter/covered with flower pots, set next to the holes worked for a brief spell, but the track kept expanding.

Lamenting my malaise to an owner of a landscape company, she recommended the Talpirid Mole Bait. After placing in the active surrounds, realized AMAZING (immediate) results. The motocross track is closed. Thanks for a great product.

I live South of Ft. Smith, Ar., and we have plenty of moles here. I have tried traps of different kinds with not much luck. I tried the Talpirid Mole Bait which is fast and easy to apply. Seems to be the best choice...
Last summer I used a few boxes of the The Giant Destroyer super gassers. These worked better than anything I had been using over the past years...everything seemed to work for awhile but the moles always come back...and the Super Gassers held them off better than the rest...Then Fall comes. I switch to Talpirid Mole Bait - Worms. Much easier. Just drop half a worm in a couple of main holes of each burrow and that's it. I'm on my third 20-pack and now when they come back they go away real quick. I call that a good sign. Right now, I'm putting my money on Talpirid Mole Worm Baits. They are easier to use and they seem to be doing a better job than anything else I have tried.

good product
I used to use traps, but my sprinkling system guy, who works for a neighboring city and golf course installing systems, said they use Talpirid and got me to use this product. I also cut the worms in half, as others do, and that seems to be sufficient. I have had pretty good luck and have no activity for a while after baiting ....though it is a never ending battle, as new moles move into the same tunnels...and the cycle starts all over again.
The price on this site is much better than in local stores and the service/shipment was excellent and fast. So I am ordering again....

Still struggling with moles
In the past two years I have used five packages of Talprid, 100 worms, as directed, and I still have moles throughout most of my lawn. I tamp down the grass, wait until I see it lifted again, insert a worm, the next day or two the grass is lifted again. There is a golf course bordering my property that sprays for moles and they seem to keep coming from there. Nothing seems to work here in Hilton Head, SC where it seldom freezes moles into hibernation.

DIY Response: Sorry to hear you're having problems eliminating the moles. I suspect the neighboring golf course is furnishing you with a steady stream of new moles. You may have a tougher time eliminating them than the average home owner because of the surrounding environment. You are probably killing some moles, but others are quickly replacing them. In addition, the sandy soils found in the coastal Carolinas can cause the mole tunnels to collapse after baiting them. Tunnel collapse will cover the bait with sand and makes the bait less attractive to the moles. You may want to supplement the Talpirid Bait with some mole traps ( http://store.doyourownpestcontrol.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=mole+traps ) which are quite effective in sandy and loamy soils.

This stuff (Talpirid) Works
This was my second year of battling moles (they won last year). And, all sorts of other critters showed up. IT WAS AWFUL. Lived here 23 years... 1st time ever squirrels showed up too and ripped my chimney flashing off, tore up soffit, etc., etc. $867 work of repairs. (got in my house- awful!!) This year, thanks to Talpirid the moles are dead and no other critters. Only my beautiful red cardinals, blue jays, etc. flying about. I wrote Bell Laboratories an email thanking them and asking them to PLEASE never take this off the market. Their reply: "Thank you for your email and comments on Talpirid. The plan is to market this item for a long time to come." P.S. I cut 'em in half like another person said. Put them in the top level tunnels and even found the subterranean tunnels (amazing!).

I have a super mole. The kind that can dig through heavy clay nightly, leave huge mounds, and kill every last stem of grass over the runs. My lawn looks like an impact zone after trying pellet bait, castor oil, smoke bombs, flooding, sonic spikes, letting my dog dig, and anything else anyone recommended.
I dropped the bait last night, just before dusk. I only used three "worms" and as of this morning, there is NO activity. I wish I had known about this product in the beginning as I would have saved about $100 in treatments that seemed to attract the mole rather than repel it.
I highly recommend this product! Just drop it on the other side of the fence and check your yard daily for dead moles if you have pets.
The only down side is that I'll never eat another gummy worm in my life but it's a small price to pay for a beautiful lawn.
