Texas 2 Step Fire Ant Kit

This fire ant kit contains two products to be used in two steps.

  1. Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait (1.5 lb )The first is to broadcast Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait over the desired area. Broadcast Extinguish Plus twice a year once in the spring and once in the fall.
The 1.5 lb. container in this kit will cover one acre.
    • Extinguish Plus combines two active ingredients for complete control of the fire ant colony. It contains hydramethylnon to kill the fire ants and Methoprene as an insect growth regulator (IGR) to prevent new generations.
    • Foraging fire ant workers bring the bait back to the nest for the rest of the colony to eat, thereby killing the queen(s).
    • It is best to bait when fire ants are active, and the temperature is greater than 60° F. Choose a dry, sunny day; do not place bait on moist ground. During the summer months, fire ants mostly forage at night to avoid high temperatures. If the soil temperatures are higher than 90 °F, most ant bait baits will not be as effective.
    • Extinguish Plus is a slow acting bait.
  2. Martin's Surrender Fire Ant Killer-The second step is to use a quick acting dust, Martin's Surrender Fire Ant Killer, on the mounds between the spring and fall broadcasts of the Extinguish Fire Ant Bait. Surrender works faster and will give you immediate control of the fire ants.
    • One 1 lb can kills up to 108 fire ant mounds
    • Two methods for mound treatment:
1.-Dry Method-Evenly distribute 1 to 2 teaspoons over the mound
2-Drench Method-Mix 1 oz. in 5 gals. of water. Apply 1 gal. of mix to each mound area by sprinkling the mound until it is wet and treat a four (4) foot diameter circle around the mound.

I have noticed a reduction in the number of ant activity and ant hills.

Texas two step realy works.
Did step 1 and it worked very well. Have not seen any ants in awhile. No mounds anywhere in the yard so I've not used step two yet. Would recommend this product. I live in SC the fire ant capital of the world.

I received my Texas Two Step while we were having lots of rain so some ant mounds started to develop before I was able to apply it. . After cutting the lawn, I just used the sprinkle holes on the bottle and walked off my property using the Extinguish and I am able to go out with the dog and not be eaten alive by fire ants. It is amazing that what looks like about 1/3 of a jug of product actually is enough to broadcast over an an acre.
Last year I purchased only the Martin's Surrender and used it on individual mounds and it works beautifully. I am glad on have the Surrender on hand for this season. I will definitely purchase the Two Step again next year.

So happy with my purchase
This product exceeded my expectations. It wiped out all of the ant hills in my lawn and when the colony moved to another location it wiped them out there too.

Used at home & garden
We applied carefully following the directions. After a few days we noticed fewer fire ants. After about 4-5 weeks we seem to be free of the fire ants. I will reapply in Spring, per directions. THANK YOU!

Great stuff!
I had nearly a dozen fire ant mounds on my property. The combo treatment eradicated all of them in a few days. Only the largest colony remained after day 3, but the ants were much less numerous. They also were noticeably slower if I agitated the mound. After another day or two even that colony was gone. Well worth the money and very easy to apply.

very pleased!! The can of surrender is so stinky, even the mailman commented on the smell. Best products ever!! I did use the extinguish product on my acre of property. Really have to use sparingly to cover entire acre. will buy again in 6 months or when mounds start popping up!!

Works in B'ham, AL
I moved into my current home in 2014 and have used various fire ant treatments over the last 3 years ranging from homemade (using borax and sugar) to store bought (Andro powder) with little success. I would treat the mounds with initial success but then a few days later I would discover that they had moved.
I bought this 2 step treatment and have been fire ant free for over a month now. Assuming it stays this way then I'll treat with the Extinguish twice a year to keep them at bay. I'll update this review if anything changes but I am very pleased, so far.

Good stuff.
I'm very impressed with Extinguish Plus. I had at least 100 fire ant mounds in a yard in South Alabama. After one week I tested many of the mounds with a stick. None of them had any activity. I didn't spread the granules around each mound. I simply laid down strips about 20' apart. I watched as the gathers grabbed and ran back to holes with the bait. Some holes were very far from any mounds but obviously, the queen was being taken care of.
