Texas Size Texas 2 Step Fire Ant Kit

  • (1) Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait-25 lb bag
  • (2) 1 lb containers of Martin's Surrender Fire Ant Killer

This fire ant kit contains two products to be used in two steps.

  1. Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait- First step is to broadcast Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait over the desired area. Broadcast Extinguish Plus twice a year once in the spring and once in the fall. Extinguish Plus 25 lbs treats up to 16.6 acres
    • Extinguish Plus combines two active ingredients for complete control of the fire ant colony. It contains hydramethylnon to kill the fire ants and Methoprene as an insect growth regulator (IGR) to prevent new generations.
    • Foraging fire ant workers bring the bait back to the nest for the rest of the colony to eat, thereby killing the queen(s).
    • It is best to bait when fire ants are active and the temperature is greater than 60° F. Choose a dry, sunny day; do not place bait on moist ground. During the summer months, fire ants mostly forage at night to avoid high temperatures. If the soil temperatures are higher than 90 °F, most ant bait baits will not be as effective.
    • Extinguish Plus is a slow acting bait.
  2. Martin's Surrender Fire Ant Killer-The second step is to use a quick acting dust, Martin's Surrender Fire Ant Killer, on the mounds between the spring and fall broadcasts of the Extinguish Fire Ant Bait. Surrender works faster and will give you immediate control of the fire ants.
    • One 1 lb can kills up to 108 fire ant mounds
    • Two methods for mound treatment:
1.-Dry Method-Evenly distribute 1 to 2 teaspoons over the mound
2-Drench Method-Mix 1 oz. in 5 gals. of water. Apply 1 gal. of mix to each mound area by sprinkling the mound until it is wet and treat a four (4) foot diameter circle around the mound.

Customer Reviews 5 item(s)

I live in southeastern North Carolina and fire ants rule. I ordered this product back in the spring along with an additional case of Acephate just in case. I was at my wits end and had used all the products on the market. None of it worked. Besides that, I was putting a hurt on my lawn mower engine running over ant mounds. I spoke with the tech-Emmet- at Do Your Own Pest Control and was advised by him as to how to apply it. I purchased a hand spreader for about $20 to cover my property. We live on about 14 acres which 4 acres are lawn space. Walking 4 acres with a hand spreader was a chore but well worth it. I followed his directions to the letter and within 4 weeks not a single mound. Even in the outlying field that I cut, the mounds were gone. That was applied in late April early May time frame and I did not see anymore mounds until September. I am ordering another bag to do my Fall treatment as it is advised to use Fall and Spring application. This product may seem pricey at first, but when compared to the money spent on products that haven't worked, the wear and tear on lawnmowers running over mounds, and the frustration, it's pretty reasonably priced I would say.

I'm very impressed
I have tried all the "over the counter" products costing much more per acre. I put this down by "banding" the yard and only had one weak mound show up. This stuff works.

Best fire ant control I've ever seen
Performs just as it says. I did purchase a special low rate spreader (forget the name) which mounts on my small kubota, or an ATV. I have 20 acres, about 10 of which are wooded. Amazing what a small amount you need to lay down. I actually had to get off the tractor and look at the spreader to make sure it was coming out. Used about 3/4 of the 25# bag to cover my 10 open acres, last May. I took an extra lap around the tree line of the wooded areas I couldn't get into. I went from about 15 large hills per acre, to ZERO hills on the whole 10 acres. After about 8 months, I saw a few hills appear, but nothing like before. It's been a year, the weather is warming up, and I'm going to repeat in a week or two. I never even touched the acephate cans that come along with the kit (for individual mound treatment), didn't need to. I had total control in less than 3 weeks after application. Pretty amazing. Only down side, without the low-volume spreader, I would have probably wasted a lot of it with over-application. The low-volume spreader (which can be used as a regular spreader) set me back about $350, but it is metal, well made, and will last me for years and years. Small price to pay for TOTAL fireant control.

Works Great in Central Arkansas
Number one rule, follow the instructions to a "T" I did and the product worked great this summer and fall on our 5 acres. (Surrounded by forest and pastureland) As soon as the ground temp moderates next spring I will be treating again.

Positive Results
I purchased this item to treat about 3 acres that had what I would call an above average fire ant population. The application of both products appears to have been 100% effective. I have not found one active fire ant mount on the property since treatment. It is very difficult to regulate a broadcast spreader to 1.5 lbs/acre. I probably applied 2x as much as recommended. There is enough product here for me to do at least 3 treatments on 3 acres. An excellent value considering a local pest control company wanted $1000 to treat the same property for 1 year.
