The Trapper T Rex Snap Trap s a perfect combination of trigger sensitivity and trap velocity -- speed and responsiveness ensure capture.

How To Use Trapper T Rex Rat Traps

You can use Trapper T-REX along a rat pathway or you can insert it in a tamper-resistant bait station to keep it out of reach of children. T-REX easily fits inside the Protecta Tamper Proof Bait Stations

  • Safer and easier to use than the normal snap traps, Trapper T-REX can be readily set by foot safely on the ground. Press the trap open like a pedal, keeping fingers free and safe.
  • Included is a removable bait cup that inserts from the bottom of Trapper T-REX.
The cup can be withdrawn and re-inserted without the trap being set, which greatly enhances safety and ease of use.
  • Professional trappers use Hercules Putty to adhere snap traps in place or use it to ahere bait to trap. Take a small ball of product and place at the bottom of traps. Allows you to keep the trap in place without the rodent taking the trap.
  • Bell Lab's Provoke Rat Attractant  is specially formulated food based lure to attract rats. It can be used in sensitive areas where attractants, such as peanut butter, are prohibited.

These traps are Awesome
AWESOME product. Twenty-three rats in one night. Wow!

I had a huge rat infestation around my chicken coop.

I followed DIYPestControl’s suggestions. I bought 12 T-Rexs and 12 Protecta Evo Ambush Bait Stations. I placed the 12 stations, with the T-Rex locked in an open position (used a small piece of wood), and “fed” the rats for 5 days. (Gosh, did they feast.) On the 6th day I set each T-Rex and then monitored the traps.

BAM! 10 rats in 9 traps. Discarded the rats & reset the traps. BAM! 7 more rats. Checked again, another rat.

Went to bed, but woke up hearing a “struggle”. Two more rats.

Was returning to bed when I heard a snap. Checked and caught another rat.

In the morning I checked the traps & caught two more.

These T-Rex traps & Ambush stations are fantastic. I can place them in my chicken pen without the chickens getting hurt.

I think the secret is what DIYPestControl said: use a large number of traps and feed the rats for days to train them where to feed.

Terrible for wildlife. I’ve removed these from mangled skunk paws. Stop selling these.

Great and easy to use
These work great for chipmunks. Looking at them online I thought they wouldn't generate enough force to kill a chipmunk, but I was wrong. They work well and are easy to set

Great trap!
I hired a really great team of pro a couple years ago (in Chicago) and these are what they use, and left me. I just reordered a couple of these for summer. They work great. I have one that I put by a hole rats use and I have killed a dozen rats with the one trap! (they can't get past it) I put two side by side and twice I have killed two at a time. I don't even bait them. No half dead rats to fuss with, kills instantly.

Mixed success
I've had mixed success with these traps. Catches some but also have had the bait (peanut butter) completely eaten and the trap didn't spring. Frustrating when that happens. The trap also doesn't always kill the pest and I've had to retrieve a live animal in the trap. I've mixed in a Victor snap trap and it works every time, kills em dead. It's just that the T Rex is so much easier to set. Thanks

Worth the Money
I purchased 2 traps upon recommendation from my neighbor who had a severe chipmunk problem. They trapped 24 chipmunks in a short period of time. I was able to trap 2 and it seems the rest have left the area because there are no new indications of their presence. The traps are well constructed and easy to use. Very effective.

I am back to purchase more of these, that says a lot. Don't forget to also order the bait: Provoke Rat Attractant. They love that bait!

Snap, snap
My husband informed me of at least 2 rats in our barn area - the cat, dogs and chickens had not chased out.
We used these - husband likes the design - within a few hours *snap, snap* 1 down. A few hours later, *snap, snap* 2 down. Reset 2 more times for a total of 4 rats. No more infestation. Super simple. Love it.

2 hours later and down
Have a difficult rat in an RV...one rat. Making a huge mess under the cabinet out of sight...huge pile of droppings. No sign in living space. Nest under heater...full garbage can of branches and lost items of hardware and such in paper bags. tried traditional snap traps and it was stealing and springing. Got the putty and provoke bait, and T rex traps...2 hours later, he was dead..I got it on a deer cam video too...I have been back to view cameras and traps after 5 hours and no sign of rats...we shall see, but buying one box, tube of provoke, putty, and 4 traps makes me know I am prepared for invasion. Way less than the initial visit by a "pro". I am the pro...

Oh my god. You must get these!
We've been using the wood and spring traps for years, with peanut butter. I called DYOP and explained to Emmett that we needed help with rats living in and destroying a couch after they raided a huge bag of pistachio nuts. Peanut butter in the wood/spring traps did not work. Emmett suggested these T Rex traps, and he explained how to set them over time to make the rats feel safe around them until we loaded them. Boom! Got three fat rats three nights in a row. Success!

What I like about these traps is that I can set and unset them myself, safely. I don't touch the wood/springs traps, my hands aren't as strong as my husbands and I am afraid to get hurt. These traps can be set by stepping on them, and easily released by just tapping on the plate with a pencil. We are sold! Thanks DYOP!

Good but don't always kill or kill quickly
I like these traps because I can set them with a heel rather than my arthritic fingers, and because they are easily reusable. I put peanut butter deep in the cup.

I wish however Bell would let us know how quickly and surely they kill, how long they are effective, and how to tell when it's time to throw one out.

Often I find a dead rat in one, but sometimes I'm woken up by repetitive sound of a rat trying to move while caught. I prefer a quick, humane kill. Last time I tried to drop the box with trapped roof rat in a bucket of water and found empty trap in the morning.

Traps Walk Off!
I've bought these traps a few times. They always end up "walking off." This time I bought 2, and within a couple of weeks they disappeared. They are put in places that only a rat would find them, so I assume rats are getting a leg caught and dragging the traps back to their home.

The next time I buy them, I think I will attach them to something with fishing line so they won't disappear!

Needs to be able to tie down trap
This trap is very well made except for one thing, the first time I set it out I got a big rat but noticed the rat still was able to run several feet with it even though his head was in it. The second time I set it out, went to check to see if there was anything in it and the trap was gone. The only thing I can think is that maybe it caught another rat and this time the rat managed to drag it off. Wish the makers of the trap would put something on the trap so you could tie it down some how. I paid $14.99 plus tax for this at our co op, wish I had found this site first, I could have got 2 for what I paid, but I will have to say it's a good trap

This trap was very easy to set, but I have many large Norway rats in my chicken house, and they were able to usually trigger the trap without getting caught. I did catch two rats, but one was not dead and I had to kill him with a shovel. I also caught one small mouse, but I set the two traps many many times to get those three critters.
Unfortunately I haven't found any other traps that do a better job. I'm still looking..

The traps did the job for us. We had rats in the house and used traditional traps and got one. After setting the T Rex traps we got the rest. 16 total!!
Took about a week and found that peanut butter worked as bait for us. Easy to use, rewash and use again!
Definitely recommend! Thank you for your product!

hardcore trap
100% effective. I haven't had a rat take the bait or set one off and live to tell about it. When you've caught one, it even makes a convenient and easy-to-open handle for disposal. It's too big to fit in tight spaces. And be sure not to get your finger or anything else you care about near the business end. It packs quite a punch. Securing it is a good idea, since rats can carry it off a few feet.

Excellent product - really works, and great support
The Trapper T Rex Rat Traps really work. I had been using the usual style traps and often the rat would get the bait and escape or even not set off the trap. The T Rex is effective and I don't find any more traps tripped without a rat trapped, or any bait gone without a rat trapped. Very happy with this model. I did have a slight problem with my order, but it was fixed quickly without any trouble.
Good product, good service - can't beat that.

easy to use, safe, but does not kill right away..
I like and use these on huge roof or swamp rat. On a smaller rat/ caught it around its middle. I never knew rats could scream and make such a sound. I had to hit with a bat on head many times. Blood everywhere but I know the traps works and I love the info on your page. Used peanut butter.. Looking for multiple catch cages now for country home, not there often.

Never Been More Satisfied
We are incredibly satisfied with this "alligator" trap ( thats what we like to call it hehe ). In just 3 weeks of setting it near our trash, since thats what the rodents were attracted to the most, we caught 2 mice and one rat. We live in Baltimore MD near the city, and we have an alley behind our townhouse. People here dont like putting their trash in metal trash bins that mice cant naw through, or even the plastic ones just to keep the trash off the ground. They would rather pay a ton of money to Orkin or Terminix. Just so they can be allowed to put their trash bags directly on the ground. Its very sickening how people dont care about the rodent population here, but at least we have some reprieve in our own home from them. I will be shopping here for all my pest control needs !!!

These traps work great to kill chipmunks ! Put them out in the yard inside a bait station so little fingers don't get caught but chipmunks can't resist the sunflower seeds. SNAP!! 51 gone in 1 summer.

Gets the job done
I use these in my back yard to keep the rats out. I have to hide the under things so the birds don't get in them. Works perfect. I even had two rats in one trap. effective, easy to bait and set. You don't have to worry about a live rat in the trap. Quick kill.
Review by Chicago / (Posted on 2/21/2016)
These are not effective traps.
I set out four traps around the base of a tangerine tree to catch fruit rats which have been eating the tangerines. I baited the traps with peanut butter. The next morning all the traps were sprung, but nothing was in the traps. Every morning for the last five days I have found at least one or more of the traps have been sprung, but nothing is in them. I don't think these traps are effective at all.

********** DIY Response**********

The T-Rex Traps are normally very effective on rats. It sounds to me like there is a larger animal triggering the traps. Call us at 800-476-3368 and we can make some trapping suggestions.

waste of money
this trap are actually very light weight plastics , which the rats can start walking with them and run away and take the trap with them as well !

***********DIY Response**********

There is only a slight difference in weight between this and any other rat snap trap. We recommend securing any trap and the T Rex trap has numerous points to secure it with screws or wire so that a rodent can't move it. It also can be placed in a tamper resistant bait station for maximum security.

One good trap.!
Trap works excellent, The one feature that is week is the bait cup, I have had two come out with rats and never found either one. I have also lost one trap, I now use 60 lb coated fishing wire (4') with a large snap on all the traps. Rat bait did not work for me, Cheese whiz melted and soaked in a cotton ball gets them every time.

best I've found of this type
If you need snap-traps for rats these are great. They are quite strong and kill quickly, and their construction lets you release the body without jeopardizing your fingers or touching the rat. I throw them in the desert for buzzards or coyotes to eat, and there's no poison in our environment.
Review by Carol G / (Posted on 7/9/2015)
Amazing Product
Easy to use, set and bait. The teeth make it next to impossible to escape if not killed immediately. The release is easy to drop the animal in a bag without getting all up in the rat, like the old traps. I had one with just the nose snapped, still alive and I had to fish it from the edge of the nest. The trap did not let the rat escape and I placed in a pail with a cover for it to die. Truly an amazing product. I'm gonna buy more ASAP.
Review by Stephen / (Posted on 7/6/2015)
Works great
The traps are constructed well and seem to do the job. They are good for outdoor use since the are made from hard plastic material and they seem to hold up well to the weather. I tie them to a post to prevent any larger critters walk away with the traps if they are not fully eliminated (killed) by the trap. Very easy to set. Much better and safer to set than the old wood snap traps.

Very good traps that you can set without worrying about breaking your finger if it goes off .

You simply set it by pressing down on REAR of trap (Bait the trap FIRST) .

Either way , they work and just as strong as the old fashioned traps .

Great product...
This is a great product, we've caught 7 rodents so far this summer. The bait that works for us is p-nut butter and a tiny piece of bacon fat for extra incentive. The only problem we've encountered is the smaller rodents eat the bait without setting the trap. We need stickier p-nut butter I guess...
Oh, and for the long-term, spray a hint of silicone on the hinges, they will last longer.

Buy them in bulk
This is truly the better mouse (rat) trap. It can be baited and set without threat to life or limb and I can attest to its effectiveness. Just to be on the safe side, I purchased 4 traps and distributed them about my condo (a condo, I might add, which was distressingly rich in rat poop, torn clothing and rat-induced wood shavings). Upon my return that very evening, I was bemused to find that the first 3 traps, while still found in the set position, were devoid of bait (carrots --- rats apparently favor carrots). I could practically hear my rat friend chuckling. But apparently success had gone to his head and trap number 4 contained quantity (1) rat. No off-putting pool of blood, just a lifeless rodent with T Rex around his neck and no apparent capacity for drawing breath as a result. To this day, none of his rat friends has returned to wreak vengeance and I regard T Rex as a marvelous tool for nipping that tiresome infestation right in the bud.
Review by Paul / (Posted on 11/11/2013)
Finally somebody DID build a better rat trap

I found the T Rex Rat trap a great rat trap and easy to use. I found it easy to set and not as scary as setting the Victor rat traps. I did find some break apart after several snaps, but their kill ratio more than makes up for that. Caution: set these only in areas your pets can't get to, unless you put them a tamper resistant bait station. They'd cause serious injury to a dog or cat.
