XT- 2000 Orange Oil Plus
XT - 2000 Orange Oil Plus with 95.0% d-Limonene is an alternative green option for the primary treatment of structural destroying insects. It is part of an IPM (Integrated Pest Management) practice that minimizes the use of pesticides. It treats drywood termites, wood boring beetles and carpenter ants*.
How XT -2000 Orange Oil Plus Works
XT-2000 Orange Oil Plus is a 95.0 % d-Limonene essential oil derived from citrus rind. Inject this ready-to-use product into any wood that you want to treat. It moves through the wood like gas, killing pest, termites, their eggs, and larvae on contact by the liquid and wicking vapors. Its properties allow it to act as a wick through the wood in all directions. It targets specific areas as a drill and treatment method, so there is no need to evacuate the house during treatment.
XT - Orange Oil Plus and Drywood Termites
It is best to use a one gallon B&G sprayer with a precise, comprehensive drill and treat method as a spot treatment. As a pest control operator in California, state law requires that you use a borescope for visibility to clear for Escrow and home warranties. It is best to have 7/64", 7/16", 3/8" or 5/32" drill bits on hand.
- Inspection: With a general knowledge of drywood termites, a pest control operator should perform a quality inspection. Look for visual signs such as frass, pellets, "kick-out holes," blistered wood and live termites. Use listening devices, and fiber optic equipment to discover hidden locations. Using a screwdriver, and tapping on the wood and listening for different sounds that indicate termite presence (due to variation in wood density) may help locate galleries.
- Wood Injection: Drill 7/64" hole into wood into the "kick-outs"(avoid electrical wiring and plumbing when drilling). The purpose of the drilling is to intersect the galleries within the infested wood. Do not drill completely through the wood. Use a pattern shaped like a "W." Drill every 3-5 inches for enough penetration of XT-2000 Orange Oil Plus. If the beam is larger than 4" x 10", drill opposite sides of the beam for effective penetration and coverage of XT-2000 Plus. Avoid runoff or splash back and plug holes with wood filler afterward. Apply at the rate of 0.22 gallons per 1 cubic foot.
- Retreatment: Do not apply again to the same area within one year.
XT-2000 Orange Oil Plus-Efficacy Study
The manufacturer, XT-2000, Inc hired an entomologist Dr, Rudolf H Scheffrahn from University of Florida to perform an efficacy study for evaluation. He treated Brazilian Pepper trees that had active termite galleries. He treated eight trees (trunks and branches) with 95% d-limone (the same percentage and active of XT-2000 Orange Oil Plus) and eight trees with just water. At linear intervals of 12.5cm (4.9 inches), he treated these test trees with no more than 7 fluid oz.
According to the results, the mortality rates ranged from 47-100% with a total mean mortality of 97.4%. Six out of 8 boards treated with 95% d-limone destroyed 98% of all termites.
*Only kills foraging carpenter ants present at the time of application.
