Zylam Liquid with dinotefuran is also a neonicotinoid insecticide like Safari SG and Zylam SG. Zylam liquid is labeled for bark banding, soil injection and foliar spraying. Zylam controls a broad spectrum of chewing and sucking insects, such as scale, armored scales, aphids, borers, thrips, lace bugs, mealybugs and caterpillars and other listed insects that infest landscape ornamentals and turf.

Zylam Liquid Systemic Insecticide provides rapid, systemic control. This rapid feature is critical in the control of armored scales. Because Zylam liquid has translaminar activity, it is able to move to the underside of leaves, killing those insects that are hidden.

Application Options

  • Soil drench or injection: It is absorbed quickly into the plant tissue since it soluble in soil water. As a systemic, it works its way to the plant's extremities. This product movement results in control of tough insects like armored scales.
  • Bark Banding: Zylam liquid may be applied to the trunk. It is absorbed through the bark into the vascular system. Tree size, tree health and environmental conditions effect the control of the target insect. All applications must include the addition of an organosilicone surfactant.
  • Foliar Spray: For some insects, Zylam can be made to the leaf surfaces; thorough coverage is required. Because of its translaminar properties, Zylam will move within the leaf to both upper and lower surfaces. Insects are affected both on contact and through ingestion.

Spotted Lanternfly Control
Zylam works very well on killing spotted lanternfly. Be sure to read the label as to when you are applying it. It will kill honeybees if applied when pollinators are active.

Works on Spotted Lanternfly
I mixed the zylam liquid according to the directions on the package for a basal bark application and sprayed it on the trunk of the tree as explained in the directions. Within a week the spotted lanternflies started dying. I can see them all around the base of the tree. Thank you Do-It-Yourself-Pest-Control!

I gave it 5 stars, but I will hopefully never find out if it isn't
Well, I hope it is a 5 star product, but I will hopefully never find out if it isn't. I have Ash that are subject to Emerald Borers and Hemlocks that are subject to aphids. Neither pest has hit our area yet, but since I am a tree hugger, I did not want to take a chance so I applied this proactively.

Great product - quick results.
Great product - worked on my elm beetles. Quick results - easy to apply. I picked up a sprayer from the hardware store and mixed the Zylam with a surfactant (Dyne Amic) from this site and saw quick results. Residual positive results on the aphids eating on my Hawthorne trees as well.
