Flea Control

Flea Control ProductTreatment In The Home

  • Begin flea treatments by cleaning surfaces where the pets have been. Remove clutter from area to be treated. Remove pets and birds before treatment. Cover fish tank and turn off pump.
  • Use an IGR (Insect Growth Regulator) to stop the flea cycle. Understanding the flea cycle during flea treatments will aid in your success.
  • If you have a current flea infestation, it will be necessary to use a residual insecticide to kill the adult fleas. This insecticide could be mixed with the IGR.
  • If you treat before a flea infestation begins, you can use the IGR by itself. This would prevent the fleas from emerging into adults; stopping the cycle. Spray this every 6 months.
  • Treat the pets with flea treatments

Recommended Flea Control Products - Inside Use

(For Carpets & Rugs)

Pick from column A and column B
Mix together in a pump sprayer and spray floor surfaces. You may spray upholstery if water doesn't stain the fabric.
Use recommended ounces per gallon of water per 1,000 sq ft

A (Insecticides) B (IGRs) Use 1 oz
  • FenvaStar EcoCap  *Top Recommendation
  • Conquer Insecticide
  • Precor IGR
  • Meteor IGR
  • Martin's IGR

Example: FenvaStar Eco Cap (2 oz) mixed with Meteror IGR (1 oz) in one gallon of water.

  1. Spray carpets, rugs, underneath furniture cushions, under beds and areas where the pets have gone.
  2. You will typically need to retreat the insecticide again (alone without the IGR) in 1-2 weeks. This is necessary to treat the fleas emerging from the cocoon stages. It takes 4-6 weeks for the IGR to break the cycle completely.
  3. You will not need to re-spray the IGR for 6 months (unless the rugs and carpets are cleaned)

(For Hardfloor Surfaces except concrete surfaces)

Use a ready to use aerosol that contains both the insecticide and IGR mixed. No mixing required and easy to use. Each aerosol can cover 2,000- 2600 square feet on hard surfaces. You can also use this for carpets and rugs, but it is not as economical. Your coverage will be less for carpets and rugs.

  • Pt Alpine Flea Aerosol-*Top Recommendation
  • Precor 2000 Plus
  • Ultracide Aerosol
  • Nyguard Plus

(For Concrete Surfaces)

Pick from column A and column B

A (Insecticides) B (IGRs) Use 1 oz

  • Cyper WSP (2 inner packets per gallon)
  • Precor IGR
  • Meteor IGR
  • Martin's IGR

Example: FenvaStar Eco Cap (2 oz) mixed with Meteror IGR (1 oz) in one gallon of water.

  1. Spray concrete floor.
  2. You will typically need to retreat the insecticide again (alone without the IGR) in 1-2 weeks. This is necessary to treat the fleas emerging from the cocoon stages. It takes 4-6 weeks for the IGR to break the cycle completely.
  3. You will not need to re-spray the IGR for 6 months (unless the concrete has been cleaned)

Recommended Flea Control Products - Outside Use

Unfortunately, IGRs do not work outside. The top recommendation is Bifen LP granules. These are slow acting but have a long residual(3 months). For a quicker knockdown, use Bifen IT once a month.
